Penn National Gaming (PENN) rises after Ohio casino vote

PENN logoPenn National Gaming (NASDAQ: PENN - option chain) shares are rising today after voters in Ohio approved ballot measures to allow casinos in four cities in the state. PENN lobbied heavily in favor of the measure and will build two of the casinos, in Toledo and Columbus, which are scheduled to open in 2012. If you think that the stock won't fall by too much in the coming months, then now could be a good time to look at a bullish hedged trade on PENN.

  • House-hold products have seen in-line earnings, so has the defense sector.

As the termination news on the Penn National Gaming (PENN) merger hits the wire on July 3rd, I realized that I need to bring closure on one of my trading ideas. In my previous PENN merger arbitrage post, I entered into a ”paper-trade” hoping to capture +20% return on 419 shares. Since then, the credit crunch hit this trade in full force dropping the PENN stock price to a trading range of $40-$45/share for about 3 months and then recently pushing the price to approximately $30/share.
