Bookkeeping: Starting Short Positions in Pulte Homes (PHM) and Whirlpool (WHR), Covering Portfolio Recovery Associates

I started two short positions yesterday afternoon - one in homebuilder Pulte Homes (PHM) and one in appliance maker Whirlpool (WHR). While I have been playing homebuilders from the long side for a trade Pulte is approaching resistance so I put on a 2.2% type of position as it hit its 200 day moving average for the 3rd time in about a week. Entry was in $10.90s - I may or may not keep this for the long run as a hedge, I'll consider exiting if it runs north of $11.50. In all the hub bub yesterday I did not notice that one of the outstanding limit short orders finally hit (I have quite a few) - this one is for Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRAA). I had a limit order for a 1.9% stake at $24.35 which executed on Uncle Ben's squeeze. This is based on a chart along with some fundamental reasons - the stock has been in free fall but I had the short set to execute around the 50 day moving average. Potential Short Setups

The darn REITs are in free fall and there is no let up, same for Capital One (COF), same for the newspapers, same for the casinos, most retailers.... and we apparently missed the most recent chance at Harley Davidson (HOG). Hard to "pile on" such death spiral set ups - at least for me. Here are some of the names I am considering... Signet Jewelers (SIG) which we've been discussing for a while here - another consumer play; the main issue for my purposes is lack of volume - only 200K a day which makes it hard for me to get in and out of.
