Qualcomm: EU Drops Royalty Probe After Four Years

The European Commission has dropped a four-year probe into royalty rates charges by Qualcomm (QCOM) after the remaining companies that had brought the complaint withdrew from the case, the Financial Times reports. Left without any complainants, the Commission said that it is no longer appropriate to the invest further resources in the case.

Research In Motion: BMO Capital Cuts Rating, Trims Estimates

BMO Capital analyst Tim Long this afternoon cut his rating on Research In Motion (RIMM) to Market Perform from Outperform, chopping his price target on the stock to $64, from $100.

He also trimmed his EPS estimate for the February 2010 fiscal year to $4.13, from $4.21; for FY 2011 he goes to $4.66, from $5.10.

Wednesday the market sold off in the last hour and major indexes ended the day with losses. Semiconductor indexes were underwater pretty much the entire day. The iShares Semiconductor ETF (IGW) ended down 1.72%.
