These days it is hard for anyone to be credible when they say they know what is going to happen next. I am no different. I have a view and for now it is working but that doesn't mean it will tomorrow. I am happy to tell everyone what I think and they are free to agree or disagree. My premise is a simple one but it isn't a happy one. So you may sleep better if you just hit the delete key now. In my view, the problem we all face is a big one. The US like the rest of the world is over leveraged. As anyone who has ever lost their butts trading stocks on margin knows when times are great l...

The REW seeks to return roughly twice the inverse of the Dow Jones U.S. Technology Index. That index consists of tech stalwarts like Apple, Microsoft, IBM, Qualcomm, Cisco, Dell, and Intel. YTD it is down about 13%, but has had a decent couple of weeks with Apple, Cisco, and Qualcomm experiencing nice moves. This is not an expensive index per se(avg. P/E of the top ten holdings is 16), but it certainly isn't cheap. At the end of the day, I still don't believe in the consumer or increased capital expenditure from corporations.

Bad market times are great times for stocks which bet against various indexes in the stock market, I have compiled a list of the stocks that do well when the index does not. If you have the ability to do a lay over chart you can see that the stocks listed below each index, they rely on that index doing badly, who says you cant make money in a bad market. These stocks will produce as long as the bear market holds, my best guess is til about september. <> Even in a bad market some days the market does well and these stocks drop in price, I>...

The Oxen Report - Markets Gearing up for Earnings Season
<>Hey all! Well, what a nice Friday we had. Let me go over how we went 3/3 on the daily picks and review the fourth long term pick that was an alert sent out for a buy on Friday. Our first Buy Pick of the Day was FAS with a recommended entry point of 68.85, which we got in the first few minutes of the market opening. From there, we were looking for a 4% gain to 71.60. We reached that gain at 10:20 AM. If you held onto the stock, you could have made upwards of 10%. After FAS, our second Buy Pick of the Day was Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD). The stock was another winner as we called a tech >...

The Fly: Less Than Stupid Ways to Hedge
Words of Wisdom on iBankCoin.com this weekend -- If the market is going to correct, instead of hedging via (FAZ) , (SRS) , (DUG) or (REW) , why not buy dollars, via (UUP) or treasuries, via (TLT)?

Updating My Shorts on Financials and Tech
I picked up shares Monday of FAZ (FAZ) at $46.80. The triple short financials ETF declined over 17% an was down almost $10 per share. I think most of the upside potential for financial is baked into the stock. I expect investors to take profits after earnings. I also picked up some shares of REW (REW). This the ultra short technology ETF.

MarketWatch fund expert: A bear-proof portfolio
"Tread lightly," cautions leading fund expert Bill Donoghue. In his Marketwatch Proactive Fund Investor, which develops various actively-managed mutual funds portfolios, "Further market erosion is more likely than a rally. There's little reason for optimism." "When trends become highly probable and highly correlated with portfolio holdings, our advice may become very profitable. This is one of those times. "The Dow Jones Industrial Average is about to take out its 2002 low and safe-harbor investors are shifting to precious metals. Technically the next support is 25% down at 6,000. <>"Considering>...

New short selling rules: More attention to Short ETF.
|
|
|
SEC has applied new rules to short selling. Naked short selling has been stopped on Thursday. Now sellers have to borrow company shares before selling them on the market and later on buying them for lower price in order to close position.
This SEC prohibition could attract more attention to Short/Inverse Exchange Traded Funds. Funds provide possibility to profit from declining market even without borrowing of the shares and setting up margin accounts. Another advantage is that in case of short selling trader can lose unlimited amount without proper stop loss. Contrary with Short ETF your inv...
