FUND SUMMARY The investment seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, which correspond to twice the inverse of the daily performance of the Dow Jones U.S. Consumer Services index. The fund normally invests 80% of assets in financial instruments with economic characteristics that should be inverse to those of the index. It may employ leveraged investment techniques in seeking its investment objective. The fund is nondiversified.

These days it is hard for anyone to be credible when they say they know what is going to happen next. I am no different. I have a view and for now it is working but that doesn't mean it will tomorrow. I am happy to tell everyone what I think and they are free to agree or disagree. My premise is a simple one but it isn't a happy one. So you may sleep better if you just hit the delete key now. In my view, the problem we all face is a big one. The US like the rest of the world is over leveraged. As anyone who has ever lost their butts trading stocks on margin knows when times are great l...

The investment seeks daily investment results which correspond to twice the inverse of the daily performance of the Dow Jones U.S. Consumer Services index. My timing has been terrible on this investment, but the thesis is still sound. The U.S. consumer is tapped out. Unfortunately, the top 10 holdings of the index have held up extremely well. Companies like WalMart, Disney, and McDonald's have proven why they're world-class companies.

Bad market times are great times for stocks which bet against various indexes in the stock market, I have compiled a list of the stocks that do well when the index does not. If you have the ability to do a lay over chart you can see that the stocks listed below each index, they rely on that index doing badly, who says you cant make money in a bad market. These stocks will produce as long as the bear market holds, my best guess is til about september. <> Even in a bad market some days the market does well and these stocks drop in price, I>...

The Dark Side
"Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering, suffering leads to the Dark Side." - Master Yoda
<>Master Yoda was correct and once again the Dark Side took the prize. Notwithstanding a feeble oversold bounce on Wednesday, the S&P 500 fell another -7.03%, Dow -6.17%, Nasdaq -6.10%, and the Russell 2000 -9.76%.
<>To make the big money this week, once again being "ultra short" just about everything proved worthwhile but that is especially true with the financials (SKF), real estate (SRS), industrials (SIJ), telecom (TLL), utilities (SDP), and consumer services (SCC).. As fo>>...

What is the ratio of inventories to sales telling us?
If you weren't sure how bad sales in the U.S. have been lately, take a look at the chart below.
Last week the Census Bureau released the Manufacturing and Trade Inventories and Sales report for November 2008. At this point, November seems like ancient history but the chart seemed dramatic enough to me that I wanted to share it with readers.
This chart tracks the ratio of inventories to sales. What we are seeing is the effect of sales falling at a much faster rate than inventories. Here are the underlying numbers: <><>Sales were down 5.1% from October to November while inventories were down 0.7%. T>>...

6 Ways to Make Money in Bear Markets
|
|
|
There are lots of ways to make money from a falling stock market, some speculative, and some not so risky. And it is a good thing too, because small investors need a way to protect themselves, and even make money on the downside. Hopefully, the stock market is near the bottom, but if it has a long way to go before it finishes dropping, then here are several options to choose from.
