SKX: Bull or Bear?
The consumer confidence con: Five consumer stocks to sell now

(closed on 06/07/09)
Filed under: Consumer experience, Stocks to Sell While consumer confidence might have soared in April, the move seems to be in response to a two-month surge in stocks versus any real strength on the home front.
The jobs market is still poor with stagnant or declining wages. Corporations are still in lay-off mode and oil prices are marching ever higher. In other words, there are still hurdles to overcome before the "all clear" can be given. I don't mean to rain on the parade of recovery, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. <><>Continue reading <>The consumer confidence con: Five consumer st>>>...

Doesn't anyone realize that these are the same guys that did a crash and burn with LA Gear back in the early nineties? The pattern is exactly the same; dynamic growth, market sweethearts, slowdown at retail, dilution of the brand through discounters, excessive inventory, and the major inside sell offs of stock by the Greenbergs. Do your homework on this one because it certainly looks like history may repeat itself. In fact as i recall LA Gear was partially owned by Trefoil but got caught overstating inventory values by the Roy Disney investment group. They burned alot of shareholders but the...

Skechers: Ignoring Obvious Value

Old news now, but Skechers (SKX) second quarter was less than stellar. It was sort of a replay of the December '07 quarter, weak top line and a miss on the bottom line. Gross margin looked great, but G&A expenses deleveraged the sales line. A positive swing in interest expense and other income boosted the eps comp by 2 cents, while a lower tax rate also modestly detracted from earnings quality. Inventories rose 31%, so shoppers better show up in Q3 or that may become a burden. <>The midpoints of management guidance for the September quarter are revenues, up 9.5%, and earnings per share, up 15>...

"Skechers USA (NYSE: SKX), a trendy California-based retailer, is a new buy on our 'hot list'," says John Reese, who selects stocks based on the criteria used by "legendary" stock pickers.

Filed under: Stocks to Buy The choppy/consolidating (or perhaps worse) market conditions sometimes give the impression that growth plays do not exist, but that is not the case, and one growth company worth reviewing is Skechers.
Skechers USA Inc. (NYSE: SKX) designs and markets contemporary footwear for men, women and children under seven individual brands, including the Skechers, Michelle K, and Somethin' Else names.
In general, analysts expect adequate same store sales gains in FY 2008 for Skechers' 150 company-owned stores, and via department store distribution. Analysts also expect new pro...

Zacks We are initiating coverage of Skechers with a Buy rating and a six-month target price of $26, which is 13x 2008 EPS estimate. We are bullish on the company s diverse portfolio of brands, international growth opportunities, and retail store expansion all of which bode well for the company s long-term earnings growth. What s more, SKX shares are trading at 10.5x our 2008 EPS estimate and 8.7x our 2009 EPS estimate. We think this is an attractive valuation relative to our estimate of Skechers longterm earnings growth rate. It is even more attractive when you consider that the compa...
