SanDisk was slammed today, despite having a terrific quarter. They beat estimates by 0.15 ex-items, but posted a loss for the 4th quarter from the acquisition costs of MSystems. SanDisk reported record earnings of over a billion dollars of revenue for the 4th quarter, far exceeding analyst expectations. However, they provided weak guidance for the 1st quarter of 2007 which caused investor confidence to slip.

SanDisk is looking to replace that spinning, power-hungry hard drive in your laptop with a 1.8-inch solid state 32GB flash drive. The company says its cool-running SSD Ultra ATA 5000 1.8" drive is a drop-in replacement for those old-fashioned mechanical hard disks. SNDK's long-term prospects should be fairly positive, as it is one of the strongest players in the flash memory market. Intel's and Micron's partnership into the flash memory market has yet to materialize any positive results, and should not be as large a threat to Sandisk as initially expected.
