GT Solar (SOLR) reported revenue for its fiscal Q2 ended September 26 of $104.2 million, consistent with recent guidance of $100 million to $105 million. EPS of 6 cents a share was also inline with the recent forecast of 6-7 cents.

SOLR also repeated its previous forecast for the fiscal year ended April 3, 2010, for revenue of $450 million to $550 million, and EPS of 45-60 cents.

In late trading, SOLR is unchanged at $5.54.

GT Solar (SOLR) this morning announced that it has named Tom Gutierrez as President, CEO and a director. He replaces Tom Zarella. The change was effective October 28. The company, which sells manufacturing equipment to the solar sector, did not give a reason for the shift.

Gutierrez served as CEO from 2001 to 2008 of Xerium Technologies (XRM), a company that makes advanced synthetic textiles.

GT Solar (SOLR) is expected to announce results this week. Its short interest currently stands at 4.3% of shares outstanding. The Solar Industry is popular amongst short sellers with supply particularly tight. Active utilisation for GT and other solar stocks (First Solar (FSLR), YGI) is close to 100%.

Suntech (STP) CEO Shi Zhengrong told the New York Times that his company is selling solar panels in the U.S. market for less than the cost of materials, assembly and shipping in a bid to boost market share.

GT Solar (SOLR) late yesterday said it filed a shelf registration for the potential sale of 106 million shares of the company’s stock held by GT Solar Holdings, which is controlled by investment funds GFI Energy Ventures and Oaktree Capital Management. The filing covers almost 74% of the roughly 143.4 million shares the company has outstanding.

The solar manufacturing equipment company said the registration statement was filed pursuant to the exercise of a demand registration right received by the company from GT Solar Holdings under a registration rights agreement.
