Remember how information technology became so sexy nine years ago? The price of oil today will drive up the price of especially new issues in the solar, wind and water stocks. SOLR is poised for accumulation in the coming days. Look at how positively the price has reacted in spite of the usual lawsuit news. Now imagine how any positive news will instigate further accumulation by institutions.

They make waffers and the bases for solar panels. They just a major portion of their buyers (LDK - approx. 20% of their sales). However, they still have customers and I believe they were undersold.

GT Solar (SOLR) shares are down sharply this morning after Piper Jaffray analyst Jesse Pichel this morning cut his rating on the shares to Underweight from Neutral, with a new price target of $3, from $7. The stock closed yesterday at $5.54. Pichel’s move comes one day after the company posted FY Q2 results that were about in line with the company’s recent pre-announcement.

GT Solar FY Q2 Matches Recent Guidance

GT Solar (SOLR) reported revenue for its fiscal Q2 ended September 26 of $104.2 million, consistent with recent guidance of $100 million to $105 million. EPS of 6 cents a share was also inline with the recent forecast of 6-7 cents.

SOLR also repeated its previous forecast for the fiscal year ended April 3, 2010, for revenue of $450 million to $550 million, and EPS of 45-60 cents.

In late trading, SOLR is unchanged at $5.54.

GT Solar Changes CEOs; Provides FY Q2 Gudiance

GT Solar (SOLR) this morning announced that it has named Tom Gutierrez as President, CEO and a director. He replaces Tom Zarella. The change was effective October 28. The company, which sells manufacturing equipment to the solar sector, did not give a reason for the shift.

Gutierrez served as CEO from 2001 to 2008 of Xerium Technologies (XRM), a company that makes advanced synthetic textiles.

GT Solar Another Popular Short in Solar Industry

GT Solar (SOLR) is expected to announce results this week. Its short interest currently stands at 4.3% of shares outstanding. The Solar Industry is popular amongst short sellers with supply particularly tight. Active utilisation for GT and other solar stocks (First Solar (FSLR), YGI) is close to 100%.

Suntech Admits Selling Below Cost In U.S. To Gain Share

Suntech (STP) CEO Shi Zhengrong told the New York Times that his company is selling solar panels in the U.S. market for less than the cost of materials, assembly and shipping in a bid to boost market share.
