SONS is building the next generation of communication network. After a much hyped IPO in the early part of this decade, reality hit with a big hammer as telcom spending tanked. Next came a disastrous options investigation. Everything is settled now. The company has over 400 million in cash, is relatively cheap, and should grow EPS at north of 25% a year for several more years. High profile wins at BT and continued traction at long term customers AT&T, NTT, and many others bodes well for long term holders.

    Sonus Cuts Staff By Another 10%, Or 93 Jobs

    Sonus Networks (SONS) today announced a plan to reduce its workforce by about 93 people, or 10% of its global staff. The move follows cuts of 60 jobs in March, 40 in January and 50 in December. Sonus said it will take severance and related charges of $1.4 million to $1.9 million in the third quarter in connection with the latest round of cuts.

    The company said that the total savings from the various cost-cutting rounds will save $19.7 million to $21.6 million a year. Sonus indicated that this is “the final phase” of its cost-cutting plan.

    SONS today is up 3 cents, to $1.92.

    Sonus: Jefferies Downgrades; Says Won’t Win BT Business

    Jefferies analyst George Notter this morning reduced his rating on Sonus Networks (SONS) to Hold from Buy, mostly on a valuation basis.

    Notter also writes, though, that while he had previously believed British Telecom (BT) had been a potential customer for the company, it now appears that the “opportunity is gone,” and that the project Sonus was involved with has been shelved. “The news is disappointing,” he writes. “Just a few months ago, our industry contacts were telling us that Sonus had the inside track on winning a very large follow-on deal at BT.”

    Sonus Cuts Another 60 Jobs

    Sonus (SONS) just can’t seem to cut costs, or its payroll fast enough.

    Today, the telecom equipment company announced that it will reduce its workforce by about 60 people, or 6%. That follows cuts of 40 people in January and 50 others in December. Sonus said the latest cuts will save $5.8 million to $6.3 million a year. The latest cuts will be completed by the end of the first quarter.

    Sonus Sees ‘09 Revs Down Substantially From 2008

    Sonus Networks (SONS) told investors on a conference call earlier today that it expects to report 2009 revenues “substantially below” the $292 million it reported in 2008, and that an operating loss for the year is likely.
