Through yesterday's market close, my MFI portfolio performance since inception continues to trail the benchmark Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) by roughly two percent. My total return is 1.72 percent versus 3.86 percent had I made equivalent purchases in VTI. (All returns include dividends.) My IRR stands at 3.46 percent. It wasn't a pretty month. Most notably, Salix Pharmaceuticals (SLXP) shares experienced a meltdown when Mylan and other competitors entered the market with generics for its main product. I picked up a little ground in October. Whereas last month my overall return trailed that of the benchmark Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) by nearly two-and-a-quarter percent, I am now trailing by "only" one-and-a-half percent. As of yesterday's close, my total return is 4.61 percent (distorted due to the constant addition of new money) versus 6.11 percent had I made equivalent purchases in VTI. (All returns include dividends.) My IRR stands at 9.02 percent.
