This stock is in a sector which is bound to rocket in the next few years, and the company has a reputation for excellence. I would buy it at a price lower than yesterday's close, which should be easily accomplished in this volatile market. Mid 20's?

SunPower Corporation engages in the design, manufacture, and marketing of solar electric power technologies. It operates in two segments, Components and Systems. The Components segment sells solar power products, including solar cells, solar panels, and inverters, which convert sunlight to electricity for the utility networks serving installers and resellers for use in residential and commercial applications. It also sells products for use in multi-megawatt solar power plant applications. The Systems segment offers power systems and system technologies, which include development, engineerin...

As oil continues to fall toward $120, I think solar stocks will recover marginally with the market. Additionally, I like most of the solar industry besides FSLR (and even them some) on a valuation basis. The market is factoring in the possibility of stopping the solar subsidy, but I think that chance is really 0 in an election year.

SunPower Jumps; Deutsche Bank Upgrades To Buy
SunPower (SPWRA) shares are getting a lift today from Deutsche Bank analyst Steve O’Rourke, who upped his rating on the stock to Buy from Hold, while increasing his price target to $31, from $28. The stock closed yesterday at $25.31. <>O’Rourke writes in a research note that the upgrade reflects the stock’s attractive valuation, anticipated industry growth and the company’s market position. He notes that the bears think the company can’t match the Chinese solar companies on module manufacturing costs; O’Rourke concedes that this is largely true, but that that winning in the solar industry is><>><><>< />><>< />><>< />><>< />><>< />>>< />...

Alternative Energy – Industry Outlook

OUTLOOK
The Alternative Energy industry is going through a recovery after absorbing the global recession and the cascading fall in global crude oil prices. Earlier this year, quite a few alternative energy companies were in the trough. Though these companies have recovered from their lows, their valuations are still significantly lower than their 52-week highs.
The growth of alternative energy companies is closely tied to the fortunes of the economy. In its latest release, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) predicted that total U.S. electricity consumption will decline by 3.3% in 20...

Solar: German Subsidy Cuts Coming?
Analysts this morning are parsing the fine print of a four-year coalition agreement ratified in Germany today that will likely have an impact on funding for solar technology projects, and on solar technology vendors such as First Solar (FSLR) and SunPower (SPWRA). As Bloomberg notes, German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union pushed through measures for a $36 billion tax cut meant to spur economic growth, a compromise with more aggressive proposals. The measures relating to solar funding appear vague and thus open to widely differing interpretations. <>The agreement does no>...
