The Oxen Report: Market Looking to Extend Rally, Where to Turn?

<>Monday was half good, half bad for us. Let’s start with the good. We recommended a great short sale on Ultrashort Proshares Housing and Real Estate ETF (SRS). We set our buy in range, in the Oxen Report Morning Levels alert, at 10.25 - 10.35 since the stock had risen in the morning, and I thought we could get the ETF at a solid premium. With that range, we were able to short sale at 10.34. We were looking for an exit at 10.03 - 10.13, and we got at 10.03 for a solid 3% gain. Our buy pick of the day was Arena Pharmaceuticals. The Oxen Report - Slow Data Day Means Earnings Will Direct

Happy Wednesday! <>Tuesday’s Buy Pick of the Day was Ultrashort Proshares Real Estate (SRS). The ETF was a big winner for us, as we were able to take away 3% on the day from the pick. We liked SRS because we did not see anything extremely compelling coming out of earnings that would really direct the market. The data that came out, however, was much worse than expected with a decline in housing starts (one of the first weak data points housing has seen in a long time) and some deflationary data. Investors bullied out of leveraged ETFs at exactly the wrong time

Saturday's Wall Street Journal has an article titled "Investors Pull $2.1 Billion out of Leveraged ETFs." What's going on? The article says assets in ETFs increased by $20.1 billion in August but declined in only two asset classes: leveraged and inverse ETFs. The article goes on to discuss how the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority have issued warnings that leveraged ETFs may not be suitable for all investors.
