SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Symantec Corp. (SYMC.O: Quote, Profile , Research) sees its consulting division hitting $1 billion in revenue by 2010 as the company searches for growth beyond its core business of selling security software.

Greg Hughes, head of the company's consulting operations, said in an interview this week the business would grow over the next three years to make up 10 percent of Symantec's overall revenue. The division currently generates about $200 million, or about 5 percent of the company's revenue.

Digital River (DRIV) posted Q3 revenue of $99.4 million, up from $96.3 million a year ago, and ahead of the Street at $98.3 million. Non-GAAP profits of 42 cents a share beat the Street consensus by a penny.

For Q4, the company sees revenue of $94 million to $98 million, with non-GAAP profits of 30-34 cents a share; the Street has been expecting the e-commerce services provider to post $96.5 million and 42 cents.

While Symantec (NASDAQ: SYMC) is the biggest player in security software, it has been lagging over the past few years. But, the company has been taking action, especially in revamping its sales organization.

And, it seems to be working. Today, Symantec reported its Q2 results, which showed a 19% increase in net income to $150 million or $0.18 per share. Yet, sales were still soft, declining 2.9% to $1.48 billion (but it was still better than the $1.43 billion consensus forecast).

Symantec (SYMC) are on the rise in late trading on a better-than-expected financial report for its fiscal second quarter ended September.

For the quarter, SYMC posted revenue of $1.48 billion and non-GAAP profits of 36 cents a share; the Street had expected $1.43 billion and 33 cents.

For FY Q3; the company sees revenue of $1.484 billion to $1.514 billion, and non-GAAP profits of 36-37 cents a share; the Street has been expecting $1.5 billion and 37 cents.
