Teradata (TDC) this morning posted Q3 revenue of $425 million, down 3% from a year ago and a bit below the Street consensus estimate of $425.7 million. Non-GAAP profits of 38 cents a share, though, beat the Street at 29 cents. The data warehousing systems provider said sales were down 2% in the Americas, up 3% in EMEA and down 14% in Asia Pacific/Japan.

For all of 2009, the company repeated its previous forecast for revenue down 1%-3% in constant currency. The company, however, lifted its full year EPS forecast to a range of $1.34 to $1.38 a share, from $1.22 to $1.28.

Morgan Stanley hardware analyst Kathryn Huberty this morning raised her stance on the hardware sector to Attractive from In Line, in anticipation that earnings will normalize in 2010 “on the back of a return to revenue growth and related operating leverage.”

As part of the move, Huberty shuffled ratings and price targets for a number of stocks:

IBM’s (IBM) announced acquisition of SPSS (SPSS) this morning could prompt a wave of acquisitions in enterprise software, writes Roth Capital analyst Nathan Schneiderman today. The primary targets include Actuate Software (ACTU), Informatica (INFA), Microstrategy (MSTR), Netezza (NZ), Teradata (TDC), believes Schneiderman.
