Semi Equip: Citi Downgrades AMAT, LRCX, TER, ATMI

Citigroup analyst Timothy Arcuri turned cautious on the semiconductor equipment stocks this morning, cutting his ratings on Applied Materials (AMAT), Lam Research (LRCX), Teradyne (TER) and ATMI (ATMI) to Hold from Buy. He also removed Buy rated FormFactor (FORM) from the company’s Top Picks Live list.

Arcuri contends that the supply correction that “has uniquely benefited semi equipment stocks as an early cyclical is now getting into later innings with supply now approximately tracking end demand.” He says the sector now “becomes more or less like anything else in tech.”

Stifel Nicolaus analyst Patrick Ho this morning turned bullish on the semiconductor equipment sector, raising his sector rating to Overweight from Neutral, and advising investors to “be aggressive taking a position in the group at current price levels.” He says that the rally which begain in late February in the group is still in the early innings.

    Teradyne Sets $150M Convert Deal; Stock Slides

    Teradyne (TER) this afternoon announced plans to sell $150 million of convertible senior notes due 2014, plus up to $22.4 million in additional notes to cover over-allotments.
