Filed under: Toyota Motor Corp. (TM), Stocks to Buy With this morning's news that Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE: TM) expects to lose $5 billion in its current fiscal year -- three times more than the $1.6 billion loss it originally predicted, this would hardly seem to be the time to be thinking about investing in Japan. Toyota recently built expensive new factories which now sit idle and it has lost its AAA rating. With this Japanese leader in trouble, why would you consider investing there? <>If you think Toyota will survive the current financial crisis, then today's announcement provide an opport>...

Since I last updated the index last month, the total market cap of the 40 companies has declined by 22% and currently stands at just under $450B with Volkswagen (VLKAY) accounting for nearly one-fourth of that total thanks to an 85% stock price gain in the past year and market cap of $112B. <> Given the global economic slowdown, lower commodity prices, and cool-down in former red-hot grow markets such as China; the accompanying table presents statistics and an overview of a global transport short ETF strategy for passenger airlines, auto makers, maritime, and trucking companies. While I am still bullish on the prospects for railroads as a long investment idea and a hedge to these short transport ETF ideas, they will also suffer to some degree depending on the length and depth of the s>...

<> An overwhelming 78-12 vote by the Senate sends a massive $634B spending bill to President Bush, who is expected to sign the measure before the government's fiscal year-end comes to a close on Tuesday. The bill contains provisions for $25B in subsidized loans for automakers in addition to removing a ban on offshore drilling on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Participating companies from the auto industry would not have to begin repayment of the loans for five years and the proceeds are meant to be used in the d>...

Toyoya Motors is a fundamentally stong company and if you want to do trade in the automobile sector, this should be on the top of your list. Having said that, things may not work well for them in the short term. With the oil price soaring high and a weakening dollar, TM may see a drop in their profits. The bottom line is for the long term investors TM is a "must have" in their portfolios.

4/29 - "For two companies with similar backgrounds, Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE: TM) and Honda Motor Co. (NYSE: HMC) have grown markedly different. Toyota has taken a vertical approach to become arguably the world's premier brand in combining high volume sales with high-quality products. Honda has taken a much more horizontal route, dipping its feet successfully into a wide range of products."
"In 2007 Toyota passed Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) as the world's second largest auto manufacturer. However, some question whether this victory came at the sacrifice of quality...Honda's horizontal approac...

The Prius has been gobling up market share in the affordable car market for tha last several years. In the city of Berkeley we have sold more Prius cars than any location in the United States until this most recent year. This last year the only reason why we havent sold more is the same reason we havent sold more in previous years, every single car made available is sold. Berkeley used to be the only location issued a large number of cars for sale, and now other locations have been afforded that ability. When demand exceeds supply prices rise.

Toyota is making nice looking, good quality, cheap, environmentally friendly cars and they have Diesel and 4wd know-how. They have a 10 year head-start with hybrids. The stock price has a P/E of 10. I think it should be closer to 15, or the same as Volkswagen - which is 20+.

Ok, since I don't have time to actually pull up a chart and draw it up for everyone.... check out the daily chart on this thing. I'm getting a bit ahead since, technically, the stock hasn't broken out through the neckline. I think it's a long above 126.00 on volume above 1.00-1.50 million. If that 126.00 turns out to be another resistance - I'd wait. Also, fundamentally - weaking Yen vs. dollar... definitely good for TM. The dollar looks overdone on the short side.

It was recently announced that for the first time in over 50 years, a non-U.S. manufacturer was the top maker of cars of trucks. Toyota now claims top honors. With the advent of well-built, fuel-efficient vehicles, it appears that Asian manufactures now have the pulse of U.S. consumers. With the full line of both small and full-sized vehicles, as well as rapidly rising demand for their Prius hybrid, I believe we will continue to see the share price on TM rise. Obviously, this a very blue-chip play for a more conservative investor. At this point, the primary risk U.S. investors...
