i expect a gross earnings season this fall. on a weekly chart for the down we have a strong resistance around 9800 so i do not expect much upside here. a nice consolidation period here would be nice before any more upside action.

market is long overdue for a correction, at least a few hundred points down. from there, we'll see whether or not this balloon economy will further inflate the to infinity while the $USD goes into the stinker.

The Russell 2000 has rallied 13.87% from its lows of 342.59 on March 9, 009.  It closed today at 390.12.  I would expect to see this move reach resistance at around 415 on the Russell 2000.  This move would be another 6.4% on the upside. 

There is still a good chance that we will see either a 50% retracement of the move off the lows or a retest of the lows set on March 9, 2009.   I would prefer to see one more retest of the lows.  If that retest were to happen we would then see a better opportunity to go back to the January highs of 519 on the Russell 2000.

will unfortunately be short lived. markets will have to continue their downtrend for the current time being and probably much of 2009. corporate revenues will continue to decline etc etc due to slower business environments.

i'd say early next week may show a little strength, and that time would be the time to pick up a few shorts or buy a few guys like TWM, SKF, SDS etc. short-term trade as i wait for commodities to correct.

After yesterday's technical debacle there is simply no way I can continue using Marketocracy.com as a tool for measuring our stock selections and trades. In one day alone, we effectively ruined months, or perhaps quarters of performance. I measure performance on a relative basis versus the market, the idea of course is to outperform what the market does; hopefully by large measure. Being locked out of all ETF trades yesterday (and the day before) has corrupted the performance data by a material amount.

For the record, due to technical reasons my ETF trades won't work until tomorrow the folks at Marketocracy.com tell me since they began trading on a new exchange.

I am about 24% short which I would have liked to reduce by 1/3rd as I wrote when the S&P was at 830 (I updated the entry below real time to note that) - if the market gets back north of S&P 875 I'd probably cut another 20-25% off to get less hedged for a short term move up.

I would of married that with a purchase of Ultra Russell 2000 (TWM) back when we crossed back over 840 with about a 12-15% stake for the short run to have a long...

While we started off November on the right foot, the post-election meltdown allowed the bears to win this week's battle.

This is the opposite of our friend from inception Ultrashort Russell 2000 (TWM)

It is double long the Russell 2000 - instead of jumping back into 25 stocks in scale it will be easier to just use this instrument for trading purposes as I sip on my Kool Aid and tell you, that was the intermediate bottom.

We have a 6.0% stake. Now we need to see fear turn to greed - at least for a week. ;)

LIBOR overnight rates plunged today but no one cared - I think it might matter more Monday.... we shall see - if wrong it will be easy to get out of. Just like the Ultrashorts I won't post every trade on this ...

New short selling rules: More attention to Short ETF.

SEC has applied new rules to short selling. Naked short selling has been stopped on Thursday. Now sellers have to borrow company shares before selling them on the market and later on buying them for lower price in order to close position.

This SEC prohibition could attract more attention to Short/Inverse Exchange Traded Funds.
