So, a lot of the mid west is underwater. I thought that San Francisco was the place that was going to be smote when we allowed teh gheys to enjoy all the joys and pains of marriage, just like the rest of us. But no, apparently the correct omnipotent response to amber waves of intolerance is to give those protesting sanctimoious a-holes a bath. (See also: Hotaling's Whiskey's miraculous survival of the 1906 firestorm) Of course, the waters on top of Iowa will eventually recede, and we will start rebuilding it in earnest. That will first require raw materials (and labor) to < />< />< />< />...

With option expirations last Friday, many of the options I had written have expired. Generally speaking that was a good thing for me, as it meant I was able to keep the option premium. It also meant that I had to reload many of the positions, which I did yesterday. There were a couple of situations in which I would have done better by simply buying or selling the stock outright rather than selling the options. In other cases, I would have fared worse. Over the long term, I think the option writing strategy will be more rewarding and less risky than a stock-only strategy. <>The new option positi>...

Filed under: Stocks to Buy, Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNI), Norfolk Southern Corp. (NSC), Union Pacific Corporation (UNP) When a major, metropolitan U.S. newspaper discovers a investment trend or a hot sector, count on increased share demand for companies in the sector. When that paper is one of the top three dailies, in this case The Washington Post, count on even more demand. On Monday, The Washington Post examined the resurgence of the United States' railroad sector, touching on many of the themes discussed here during the past six months, and described why the rails' services are li...

I recently noticed that trains are on a tear ever since the bottom... So I kept wondering why they were running in an economy that is slowing down. Then I turned to the master: http://www.thestreet.com/pf /funds/stoptrading/10401692 .html The trains are carrying the coal... The one that countries like India and China need to burn to pollute the earth and grow their countries GDP at stupendously high rates. Anyway, I figure these trains can easily become a major long term play here.... And a play on the election going Repu...
