2 Top Energy Sector Bets

Lots of readers have asked if The Kelly Letter is snapping up bargains in the energy sector. I've found that most people divide the sector into two groups: traditional fossil fuels and alternative energy, the latter being considered solar and wind mostly, with occasional mentions of hydrogen and geothermal.
However, the best buy in the energy sector these days has nothing to do with any of that. It's alternative energy, alright, but not the kind that gets placard-carrying crowds excited.

USEC Inc.: Uranium Play With A Bright Future Ahead

<>Over the last year, USEC Inc. (USU) has fallen from a stock price of over $22 to just over $6. The stock has recently moved upward after falling as low as $3.15, but has since recovered somewhat. Since my call on fool.com, the stock is up 16.82%. Last year USU moved up quickly and was grossly overvalued, but the sell off was extreme and I believe this stock has higher to go in the upcoming months. USU has had many critics, and many reasons not to support nuclear energy. It seems inevitable that current energy pricing will not increase the need for more powe< />< />><>< />< />>...

I bought USEC Inc. (USU) at $5.14. USU is a leading supplier of enriched uranium fuel for commercial nuclear power plants. USEC operates the only uranium enrichment facility in the United States and supplies more than half of the U.S. market and more than a quarter of the world market. 2007 revenues were more than $1.9 billion. Jefferies and GS are bullish given recent developments with DOE. USEC's European rival Urenco recently reported strong results, which is also bullish. USU has a PEG of 2.47, which is expensive. I like the company's moat (only US enricher) and cash to debt ratio ($886...

I'd been holding off until I saw the stock hit $4 today. Its entirely possible that this stock could drop another 50c or even a dollar, but right now its market cap. is about $600M and its liquid assets are $2.4B with $1.8B liabilities, or a 600M difference. Its net tangible assets are $1.3B on paper. Sure, its taking on a LOT of debt with its centerfuge project, but its far from being broke as is, and even if it WAS in financial trouble, its the only uranium enrichment company in the US and its stability is a matter of national security. Buy it up now at bargain basement prices. Antic...

<> USEC Inc. (USU) is a company that provides low enriched uranium for commercial nuclear plants. It’s an interesting play on nuclear energy b/c this country is going to have to diversify its energy plan b/c of national security, but also b/c of environmental issues.
