   Verso Paper  manufactures and supplies coated papers to catalog and magazine publishers., basically a business in a dying industry which sells its product to two other dying industries.  It has a lot of debt and very little equity.  The recent strength of the dollar is hurting them.  Ospraie and other hedge funds have been liquidating their positions, putting pressure on the price.  The 5.9% yield will only get bigger. The August 10Q paints an ugly picture as cash is dwindling and both accounts payable and receivable are piling up.  This company is a good candidate for bankruptcy, especi...

vrs-logoLong-time readers of ZachStocks may remember the days when IPOs used to be priced and profit could be made quickly depending on how deals were trading.  In June of 2008, we urged caution on Verso Paper (VRS) shortly after the company began trading.  In the article we noted the slowing demand for direct mail coated paper, significant competition abroad, a weakening dollar, and shares that were likely to be sold by Apollo Group (the majority shareholder).

The government is studying a proposal to allow foreign direct investment in domestic airlines, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel said on today (February 20).

Jet Airways cuts salaries by 20%

Facing the heat of economic slowdown, the Jet Airways management was on Sunday (November 23) understood to have suggested a five to ten per cent salary cut for its employees drawing monthly salary above Rs 75,000 and a voluntary retirement scheme for older staff.

A meeting of the management, presided by Jet Chairman Naresh Goyal at a five-star hotel in Mumbai, has decided to have a graded salary structure for all employees but kept a threshold for it saying those drawing Rs 75,000 per month would not face any cut in their salary, sources said.
