Emerging markets are like high beta stocks, they tend to fall twice as fast as the overall US market. This is a short term play based on the premise that most major indicies will retouch 2008 lows before making a recovery. I would rate this as a higher risk trade due to the long decline in markets already, but I don't think the downward trend has been broken yet. If you want to limit your losses set a buy stop-loss between the 22.5 to 23 area.

Many foreign markets seem overheated, dollar is weak etc., but the emerging markets will continue to emerge, that's for sure. I have no clue (or not enough time to track) which of them I should pick, so I've got a lump investment in VWO. Picking individual country ETF's might be a faster way to earn, but this is far safer. Plus it will catch the countries that I'd never have enough time to study. That's why I gave away country-specific ETF's and have this to cover them all. I'm planning to have it for a long time. I expect to get 15-20 percent per year on average, with moderate risk. ...

I like this ETF because of its exposure and low expense fees. It is a passive way to get exposure to China, HK, Brazil, etc. I feel that growth outside of the US will be greater in real terms on average over the next 20 years. This is also excellent for people unable to amass $2500 to $5000 to purchase shares in an emerging mkts index fund. <> Like Warren Buffet said in his latest annual letter, if the US mkt grows at the rate is has over the 20th century (5.3%) the Dow will be at 2,000,000 by the end of this century and at a 10% growth it will be at 24,000,000. Analysts missed the downturn, are they getting it right now? Why it matters
If you've ever distrusted the earnings estimates of stock market analysts, it looks like you've had good reason to be skeptical.
The following chart shows an interesting pattern. At the top left, we see global stock prices plunging roughly three months before earnings estimates began to come down. Doesn't inspire confidence in analyst opinions, does it?
Now take a closer look at the lower right hand corner of chart. Here we see prices and estimates playing out the same way, only in reverse. In other words, prices are heading up and analysts are only now, three months after the trough in price...

<>Warren Buffet has a story out today that you should read. It’s all about the debt our government is piling up and its inevitable impact. Funny – he’s the oracle of Omaha and we are just a small blog, yet we have been warning of this massive spending since it began. And let us be the first to point out that he says all this debt stopped a meltdown, but we don’t know that to be true. We might be in better shape today and for the long run had our government decided companies aren’t “too big to fail.” Perhaps what they really meant was that politicians’ biggest contributors are too big to fail><><>><>><>><>><>><>><>>><><>>><><>><>><>><>><>><>><>>><><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>><><>>>>...

The first of the emerging market sector ETFs from Emerging Global Shares set sail yesterday with the energy fund ticker EEO and materials fund EMT (I like the that ticker symbol). The website is supposed to be up today (haven't checked yet) so we can look under the hood a little bit. IndexUniverse reported that the energy fund is 36% in Russia which I take to mean a lot of Gazprom and a little less Lukoil but we'll see. The company seems to believe that hedge funds will be big users of their funds but I would think there stands to be utility for any investor willing to build at the sector ...

What’s Happening In The Market Now.. <>Stocks moved down at the open this morning.More disappointing earnings reports have dampened some of the enthusiasm over the government's expected stimulus bill. Investors are also awaiting a Tuesday speech by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner outlining the Obama administration's plan to overhaul the government's $700 billion financial bailout package passed by Congress last fall. Geithner had been scheduled to announce the plan today, but the White House pushed back the speech to focus on the stimulus bill.<>According to Pimco's Bill Gross <>mortgage>>>...
