Filed under: Competitive strategy, Ford Motor (F), Market matters, FedEx Corp (FDX), United Parcel'B' (UPS), Options, Wells Fargo (WFC), Chasing Value, Stocks to Buy, E*TRADE (ETFC), EZCORP (EZPW) Fourteen stocks have been reviewed so far with eight of them potential contenders for 2010. These include some picks from 2009, some old dependables and a few more on the speculative side.
During the year I have written on occasion about selling put options (naked puts) because the premiums offered were very generous and from my perspective assumed market collapse. This was reflected in my July post...

Market looks like it needs to correct a bit technically. Banking, in my opinion is one of the weaker sectors. mark-to-market needs to be done with and FASB needs to go back to honest accounting standards. toxic assets need to be removed from the balance sheets of the banks, over leveraging needs to be minimized, and securitization needs to be put on hold. I'll be shorting WFC when the market corrects soon. As always, you cannot fight the market trend. Terence Chow on seekingalpha.com has written a very nice piece on why the financial sector is in terrible shape. this article...

Filed under: Major movement, Good news, Rants and raves, Market matters, Wells Fargo (WFC), Chasing Value, Headline news, Stocks to Buy I have written many times in the past year about Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC) and since it is up another 23.66% today, I'd like to come back to it. As an investor I have done more than just blab (or blog) about it. I have been loading up on the stock, acquiring shares at $12.00 when the bears were ruling the market only a short time ago -- a very short time ago!
In the last month, Wells is up an amazing 48.41%, and that for the safest bank in the United States. Th...

The year has started off with a lot of continued turbulence. We have a new president, Barack Obama, who will boldly lead us where no man has gone before -- two trillion further in debt, most likely.

Carolinas and Phils have both been handed over to Wachovia guys. That is a very positive sign for this rodeo. The acquisition is being handled much better than the one by BAC as on date. The following is from strtribune.com of the 17th January 2009 The CEO of Wells Fargo & Co., now the nation's fourth-largest banker, said Friday the bank has ample capital and has grown its loan portfolio by about 20 percent in the past year as it has taken business from weaker competitors in the beleaguered financial services industry. The brass at Wells Fargo, which recently acquired capital-...

Despite the negative buzz surrounding bank stock right now, a couple of fundamentals remain. One, investor confidence is the only way many of these banks are going to turn it around, and two, some banks are still performing well even within the hurricane of doubt that currently exists. I have held WFC shares for quite some time and am taking advantage of the current share price to increase that amount. Wells Fargo is not by any means doing anything groundbreaking or revolutionary, however there are many reasons to get behind a solid stock with slow-steady growth if not only to help increas...

Why fight the Fed

The Fed is actively working to reduce the cost of borrowing by reducing risk premiums with direct purchase of mortgage-backed securities. <> These direct purchases reducing risk premiums will directly influence mortgage rates from 5.500% last week to a target of 4.500% before long. New mortgages will drive up earnings across the board. It will also encourage the reflation of housing with new purchases, which will help homebuilders (the stimulus will also likely include a backdating of tax credits which will help earnings fpr homebuilders also). Speculation is also out on a housing b><>><>>...
