Market looks like it needs to correct a bit technically. Banking, in my opinion is one of the weaker sectors. mark-to-market needs to be done with and FASB needs to go back to honest accounting standards. toxic assets need to be removed from the balance sheets of the banks, over leveraging needs to be minimized, and securitization needs to be put on hold. I'll be shorting WFC when the market corrects soon. As always, you cannot fight the market trend. Terence Chow on seekingalpha.com has written a very nice piece on why the financial sector is in terrible shape. this article...

WFC is another winner bank stock that will break out as soon as they get their system in control of Wachovia. The Market does not recover without the bank stocks and this is one that will lead the way.

Carolinas and Phils have both been handed over to Wachovia guys. That is a very positive sign for this rodeo. The acquisition is being handled much better than the one by BAC as on date. The following is from strtribune.com of the 17th January 2009 The CEO of Wells Fargo & Co., now the nation's fourth-largest banker, said Friday the bank has ample capital and has grown its loan portfolio by about 20 percent in the past year as it has taken business from weaker competitors in the beleaguered financial services industry. The brass at Wells Fargo, which recently acquired capital-...

Despite the negative buzz surrounding bank stock right now, a couple of fundamentals remain. One, investor confidence is the only way many of these banks are going to turn it around, and two, some banks are still performing well even within the hurricane of doubt that currently exists. I have held WFC shares for quite some time and am taking advantage of the current share price to increase that amount. Wells Fargo is not by any means doing anything groundbreaking or revolutionary, however there are many reasons to get behind a solid stock with slow-steady growth if not only to help increas...

More on Unemployment Duration – Analyst Blog
While I touched on unemployment duration at the end of my last blog, this is a very important subject and deserves a bit more elaboration. Quite simply being out of work for three or four weeks is a very different experience with very different economic implications than being out of work for six months to a year or more. The focus on the total number of unemployed obscures that reality. The thing that makes this recession so much different than the ones that have gone before it is how long people are staying out of work once they become unemployed. Yeah if you get laid off for a few weeks,...

Wells Fargo (WFC) Kicks the Can by Transofrming Option ARM Mortgages into Interest Only
If you are not familiar with what an option ARM mortgage is, read this piece [Aug 13, 2008: Option ARMs- Who Thought Up these Time Bombs?]]. I too was unfamiliar with it, despite following markets closely, until I read a BusinessWeek article in October 2006. Interest only mortgages? Yep I knew about those. Alt A mortgages? Yep. [March 19, 2008: Alt A Mortgages Beginning to Break Down] But option ARMs? Wow - eye opening. In summary these loans are the type where your mortgage payment not only does not cover the interest (as with an interest only mortgage) but does not even cover a< />< />< />< /><>>< />< /><>><>>< />< /><>>< /><><><>><>>><><>>><><><>>>>>< /><><><><>>>><><>>><>>><>>< />< />< /><><>>>< />< /><>><>< />><><>< />><>< />><>< />><>< />><>< />>>< />...
