The merger is now going to work to XMSR and SIRI's favor.  It's a win-win and savings of potentially billisons of dollars for everybody.  After years of a learning curve from consumer - most users of satellite radio were technology lovers and people of that sort - but the technology is now going to enter a rapid user adoption rate.

When Sirius Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) bought and closed in on rival XM Radio last month, the first thing Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin did was to look at cost cutting via taking out redundancies from the merged company. Although all kinds of ideas are floating in the air to increase Sirius subscriptions and push its stock price back above the $1 mark, some are questioning how the combined satellite radio company can grow in 2009.

Sirius Completes XM Merger; Shares Off 42% In 4 Days

Sirius (SIRI) and XM (XMSR) this morning completed their merger, at long last. Terms of the deal called for XM holders to get 4.6 SIRI shares for each share of XMSR.

But are investors are celebrating? No, they are not. Instead, they are in a selling frenzy. SIRI shares, in fact, are down 32 cents, or 17%, to $1.56, and have now now dropped 42% in the last four trading days.

Sirius: Costs Flat, But New Subscribers Plummet 50% (SIRI)

melkarmazin2.jpgSirius Satellite Radio (SIRI) pre-announced its Q2 results/subscriber numbers today on the eve of its now-approved, $3.6 billion acquisition of XM Satellite Radio (XMSR). The good news: Costs are flat, revenue is up 25%, and the company expects a 70% smaller loss than in Q2 of last year.

That's about where the good news ends. In the past, Sirius has been criticized for adding lots of new subscribers unprofitably due to expensive content deals and promotions. Now they've stopped and, well, the numbers show it.
