Bookkeping: Stopped Out of E-House Holdings (EJ) Short
11/16/09
—
We continue to live in a student body left trading environment; the same since summer 2008. Trying to short anything is just about as fruitless now as going long anything for much of latter 2008 and early 2009. It's like stealing candy from a baby... except you are the baby. Long - short strate...

Good news! Just as Alan Greenspan never saw a single bubble in 20 years, Mr Bernanke today reports no bubbles anywhere as far as he can see. [Sep 12, 2009: Federal Reserve's Kohn: We Plan to Keep Throwing Kerosene on the Fire] In that case, more money printing please! P-cubed is here. [Ma...
Interview with Andrew Horowitz of The Disciplined Investor
11/16/09
—
Andrew Horowitz at "The Disciplined Investor" and I had a rollicking, free flowing discussion on his weekly podcast; just published on his website. We had a good 35 minutes of back and forth, and I think we touched on a good many of the issues currently facing investors in this current era. The l...
Time: 5 Things America Can Learn from China
11/16/09

Let me preface this post with the normal caveats. The world is not perfect in China. There are many challenges in China. There are many differences between China and the US.
That said, an interesting piece in Time magazine titled: "5 Things America Can Learn from China" - most of these I'd hav...

Obviously this market continues to run over shorts; I cannot fathom that just two weeks ago as we entered Halloween weekend the market was breaking down, the 50 day moving average punctured, a long term trend line from the March lows to October lows had been penetrated, and we were coming off 5-6 int...
New Highs for the S&P 500; Dollar Crushed - Groundhog Day
11/16/09

A complete repeat of action last Monday; dollar crushed - equities surge. We all win here. I will be expanding the long side via the typical index plays while shaking my head at the IQ 5 market.
EDIT 9:55 AM - yet another "double top breakout"... same action we've seen numerous times this year a...

Perfect World (PWRD) Beats Solidly on Earnings, Offers Soft Guidance
11/16/09
—
Chinese video game maker Perfect World (PWRD) reported a typical quarter; beating estimates in the current quarter and offering lowball estimates for the following quarter. Stock is volatile in premarket, but as long as $42 is held we should be ok.
Full report here. A quick glance at some o...

Deficit Doubles for Government's Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp.

So many future bailouts to look forward to, so little time. So many cans do kick down the road via accounting adjustments, so few feet do keep doing the kicking. While I read this piece I was struck by my own reaction... not even $30 billion in deficit? This is peanuts! We've become so numb t...

US Dollar Falls Intraday; Traders Scramble to Buy Anything and Everything

Just another day of the same thing.
There really is no need to do any analysis these days, look at company fundamentals or talk about the economy. Everything else typed about has become just a complete sideshow.
I'll just do 1 post each day talking about the dollar and whatever it does, do the oppo...
CNBC: Ron Paul - Fix the Fed (Video)
11/13/09

Ron Paul appeared this morning for a 10 minute segment with the morning crew, with some updated thoughts on his long running battle for transparency within the Federal Reserve. The same Fed that Hong Kong's leader, Donald Tsang, says has an excellent chance to cause the next bubble / crisis (then a...

Just a fascinating video below showing how China is achieving these "consistent" GDP growth numbers [Aug 5, 2009: China's Provincial Growth Figures Far Overstated versus National Figures]. NYT: Rural India Gets Chance at Piece of Job Boom
11/13/09
—
Similar how jobs are migrating from coastal (eastern) China into the landlocked (cheaper) west, we are beginning to see the first trends of this happening in India as well. At some point in the future western China and rural India wages will be too high and I suppose these jobs move to Vietnam or I...
Pledge Update November 2009
11/12/09

November 2009 pledge update below; it was an excellent month - in fact our best month ever - surpassing even the high points in summer 2008, so thank you readers. The past month has brought in about $1.1 million in pledges, both from already pledged investors increasing their amounts - along with man...
"Double Top" for Now

The hedges we threw on this morning around S&P 1098-1099 immediately went in the red for a few points but the index never jumped over S&P 1103 so we stayed in the trade. They are working out well now and giving us gains to offset the losses from the core equity positions.
EDIT 10:15 AM - I...

I have been in the market in some form since being a teenager, first with mutual funds, than onto to stocks. Now it is 20 years later. It has been a passion of mine, and as any investor, I've had my ups, downs, and tuition extracted from learning the ins and outs. "If I only knew then..." and I continue to learn each day. I have a BA in economics from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!), and work in finance (not related to Wall St). Obviously my goal is to work in investment management, so that I don't need to "work" another day of my life.
